The Duquesa Charitable Society of St. George

In August we were able to present our donation to The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George. The funds were raised at our Summer Charity Gala which we plan to make a regular feature in Sotogrande after having to put such events on hold during and after the pandemic.

The Charity was founded at the beginning of 2013 initially as a fundraising organisation to provide funding, equipment and services to worthy causes within the local community.

The St George Charity raises funds through a number of channels including the charity’s two shops in Sabinillas, which opened at the beginning of 2014 and 2016, and the shop in La Cancelada, Estepona which opened in 2017. The St George Charity also supports the local community through donations of equipment to sporting infrastructure providing subsidies for disadvantaged youngsters.

Some of the charity’s work includes donations to Emaus social kitchen in Estepona towards their Feed a Child Campaign which aims to provide individual breakfasts and lunches for schoolchildren that were previously going without these essential meals.

As part of the charity’s social infrastructure strategy, they donated a number of chess sets, chess boards, game timers, and chess teaching aids to the Pablo Picasso and Maicandil primary schools.

Some of our choir members visited the shops in Sabinillas where they have a shop which is specifically dedicated to receiving and selling children’s clothes, toys, and equipment. The shop was very busy and is full of interesting items. If anyone is looking for something for a child you are bound to find it here.
